Thanks to the wonderful efforts of Carole Raftery and her trusty band of Eglinton volunteers, Galway's First Christmas Party for adult asylum-seekers was an outstanding success.
Held in the Slovakian-owned KCRMA bar in Salthill, the turnout of residents from both the Great Western and the Eglinton centres was very high. Dressed in their Sunday finest, the stylish-looking residents were joined by Mary McMahon (VEC), Suzanne (GRSG) and Brendan Smith (Galway) who gave a warm Irish weclome to everyone present and introduced the special guest of honour for the night- Frank Fahey TD. Frank is one of Galway's constituency representatives in the national parliament or Dáil Éireann . He thanked all the volunteers for their great efforts, outlined the importance of multi-culturalism and the efforts that the Irish government is undertaking to promote integration. With great disco music, enthusiastic dancers, sumptuous food, the best of European beers on tap, a gorgeous venue, friendly staff, it is not surprising that everyone had a long, memorable and happy night!
Finally, we would like to give a special note of appreciation to the management of both the Eglinton and Great Western for their financial and material support to the party.
